Start with the color.
Most of us were taught to begin with a flat base all over, then pile more makeup on top. I do it backwards. These pigments are rich and dimensional, so a little goes a long way.
Reds first
A warm red where your face naturally flushes: cheeks, a touch on the lips. It wakes everything up.
Then the darks
A deeper shade to shape: under the cheekbones, along the jaw, at the brows. This is what makes makeup look 3D.
Lights where the light hits
Cheekbones, brow bone, the bridge of the nose. Soft, never shiny.
Base last, and least
Only where you want a little evening out. Never all over. Your skin is supposed to show through.
Your freckles, your flush and the natural tones of your skin are not things to hide. Good color works with them, not over them.
The hardest part is the color.
